Tattoo Symbols
Dom and I really debated this section as “symbols” can fall into a number of other categories such as culture, religious icons, zodiac, nature inspired, general, etc. However, when people have requested out help in finding that perfect tattoo design, often they refer to what they are looking for as a symbol. Because we created this site to help finding that perfect tattoo – we created a symbol section. You may see some duplication as we wanted to be as search friendly as possible.
As with any tattoo , the tat has significance to the wearer and to others who see it – the interpretation does not always match. Some symbols have contradicting meanings in different cultures, in different faiths, and within different groups. My best advice here is look up the meaning of the symbol; if you don’t like the meaning, but the symbol is meaningful to you, then go with your heart and get it.
By far the most popular “symbol” tattoos are Asian characters. Be careful here and really do your research, we’ve all heard the stories of the person who thought they were getting a tattoo of a specific meaning and it turned out to be something else entirely. Asian symbols both Japanese (Kanji ,Katakana and Hiragana) and Chinese (Hanzi) we’ve provide a few pictures here to show you what they can look like.
The next most popular request we get are “heart and love tattoos”. There is a lot of variety here and many, many options to design your own. Take a look at the samples below, but then let your artistic side take over and create a tattoo that is perfect for the love you are expressing. This type of tattoo is not restricted to lovers, but rather relationships covering parents, siblings, children, and best friends. Again, below are just a few examples of what has been done – take some inspiration and then create your own.
