Your tattooist will give you specific instructions on how to care for your tattoo.  However, in case you lose those instructions, here is a reminder.

Keep the bandage on for at least 3-4 hours.  Carefully remove the bandage to let the air at it, this allows your skin to breathe and heal.

Lightly wash your tattoo twice a day with a very mild antibiotic soap.  Do not use a wash cloth and pat your tattoo dry lightly with a towel.

Apply an antibiotic ointment to the tattoo for the 3-4 days.  Afterwards, you can use a regular lotion that is free of dye, perfume, or alcohol.

Your skin should be exposed to air as often as possible however you should not let it be exposed to the sun.

Do not go into a bathtub, hot tub, swimming pool for at least 4 weeks.

Both Chopper Tattoos  and  Tattoo Me Now  offer after tattoo care instructions as well.

Chinese Symbol Tattoos

Chinese tattoo symbols and designs are rapidly growing in popularity and have taken the world by storm today. In fact, on an average, more than ten thousand people are found to search for the phrase ‘ Chinese Tattoo Symbols’ on the Internet everyday, making it the most famous tattoo art ever!

Chinese Symbol TattoosBut this does not come as a surprise, considering that the Chinese symbols and tattoo designs are some of the most beautiful and exotic ones you’ll ever come across. All thanks to pop culture and of course the movies, most people in the West have now started getting Chinese tattoos done, even though they don’t really understand them. So what makes Chinese symbol tattoos so alluring? Well, for starters Chinese symbol tattoos make an extremely exotic form of self-expression.

But besides this, there are many different reasons, some gender-specific, for the popularity of these designs. The women say that they are attracted to these Chinese symbols because of their subtle meanings and themes that they express like love, hope and freedom. On the other hand, men are drawn to these tattoo designs because they are strongly associated with movies related to the martial arts.

So, if you are planning on  getting a tattoo  and are incredibly drawn to the Chinese designs, then here is a beginners guide to Chinese symbol tattoos!

A beginners Guide to Chinese Symbol Tattoos

The practice of Chinese tattoos all started more than 4000 years ago. Chinese writing relies heavily on a large number of symbols instead of alphabets and these symbols represent many spoken concepts or ideas. So, each Chinese symbol that you know of today, represents a different spoken idea or word.

In 1710 AD, the Kangxi dictionary was created upon imperial decree and contained in it nearly 50,000 different symbols. Since then, this number has grown to almost 75,000 symbols and is still growing numbers till date.

Having said this, it must be noted that the average Chinese person must only know around 5,000 of these symbols in order to read, understand or write anything in the ancient language.

Because there are so many symbols available today, almost anything can be translated into Chinese. Even the subtlest of all nuances and meanings can be translated by using a combination of these Chinese symbols.

What is Kanji all about?

Kanji is the Chinese term that is used to describe those symbols that have also been adapted to have Japanese meanings to them. The meanings of these symbols in Japanese and Chinese are the same but they will be pronounced differently. What’s more, they could express two completely different ideas or concepts.

Rules to getting a Chinese Symbol Tattoo
If you are interested in getting your name tattooed in Chinese, then you should know that this is possible. But always keep a few things in mind when doing this. Firstly, in Chinese, names are always written in reverse order and that would mean that your last name would appear before your first name. Secondly, if your name happens to be foreign to the Chinese language, then certain symbols will have to be selected in order to represent your name.

As you can see that the whole practice of writing in Chinese is indeed very complicated, so if you are planning on getting a Chinese symbol tattoo, then there are a couple of rules you need to know. These are the rules to getting a Chinese tattoo:

  1. Make sure the words that you have chosen are translated accurately - Before you allow any tattoo artist to stick a needle into you, make sure that you discuss your design with him or her. He or she should know about the Chinese symbols and should know what their each individual meaning is. Don’t just go up to the first Chinese person you see and ask for the meaning of your preferred design. Chances are that he might not know what the symbol stands for and could possibly give you a wrong meaning. Always consult with a Chinese tattoo specialist before you get your tattoo and you’ll probably avoid getting embarrassed permanently by a tattoo that doesn’t even mean what you want it to!
  2. Get a custom design - If you want the best ever tattoo, your tattoo artist should be given a good design to work from. It is very important to spend some amount if time and money on getting your design custom made so that it is crisper and clearer and your artist will be able to understand it clearly. If you provide your tattoo artist with a poor design, you’ll probably end up with a hazy, blurred mess and the meaning of the symbol will be lost to the world.

Chinese symbol tattoos are a beautiful way of representing individuality and portraying a person’s character and personality. If you follow these rules and guidelines, you’ll surely be rewarded with a beautiful piece of body art that will last you for a whole lifetime!

Top Tattoo Designs Of All Time

Contrary to the time when it used to be exclusively connected with hoodlums, prisoners, and the mafia,  tattoo art  is all the rage these days. Tattoo enthusiasts can be practically anyone — hardcore bikers, musicians, athletes, celebrities, and even the everyday folk you pass by on the street. Highly popular in any part of the globe and with all age groups, tattoos are one of the top search items on the Internet today . According to a 2006 survey, 36 percent of people from 18 to 25 years old and 40 percent of those ranging from 26 to 40 years old have at least one tattoo.

fairy tattooPerhaps the main reason why tattoos are so in demand today is because people feel the need to better distinguish themselves among the ballooning six billion population of the world. Tattoos are artistic manifestations of our identity. Inked on skin, they allow others to see how we perceive ourselves and what we value in our lives without having to explain at all. Consequently, looking for the right tattoo design all boils down to the meaning and symbolism it offers to the holder. All things considered, isn’t it interesting to find out how tattoo bearers view themselves and what tattoo designs and symbolisms that appeal the most to them?

The following are the most sought after tattoo designs of all time and their brief general meanings:

Birds: Eagles are the most popular tattoo designs, symbolizing patriotism, might, and freedom. Hummingbirds and doves are also in demand, standing for love charm and peace, respectively.

Dragons: Arguably the most popular mythical figures of all time, dragon tattoos are general statements of strength and power. However, their specialized meanings will differ depending on whether you choose an Eastern or Western dragon design.

Skulls: Skulls have long been a symbol of pirates and stood for rebellion. Though mostly perceived as bad omens and symbols of death, skulls also represent change.

Hearts: They usually stand for togetherness and love, but their meanings vary depending on representation and the sentiments of the bearer.

Butterflies
: These winged insects are sought after by mostly women. Fragile and beautiful, butterflies are symbols of freedom and rebirth.

Tribal Symbols : They actually mean something. But just as with Asian symbols, exactly what they mean can be a bit tricky. Traditional and primitive, these forms come from all sorts of different tribes and it’s hard to tell just by looking at them. These obscure but striking looks are not recommended for those who may become annoyed by constant questions about the meaning behind the body art.

Asian symbols : Chinese and Japanese characters are massive favorites among American tattoo buffs. However, translation can be more than a little difficult at times, so you have to extra careful.

Flowers: Singled out by women, flower tattoos symbolize different things, depending on the flower used. Roses stand for love; daisies denote innocence; buttercups represent riches, while sunflowers symbolize enchantment.

Religious Symbols : Though some think it’s blasphemous, tattoo art used to be part of religious ceremonies in certain ancient cultures. That’s why it comes as no surprise that religious symbols are second on the list.

Words: They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but tattoo lettering is still the most popularly-requested design around the world. Names of loved ones, significant phrases of meaningful quotes as tattoo designs are also a big trend.
