yes, they are common and look horrid after a few years because they are mainly got by fat women who want to look pretty and don’t know how to look after a tattoo.

They mean shit, get something original.

yes they are common, (but that doesn’t mean that you can’t get one and find a way to make it yours – unique in design and image – you may have to work at it though)
As far as ‘why’ – lots of reasons, mostly that they are highly intelligent creatures, with bigger brains than we have. They also have a sense of humor, love sex, and are one of the few creatures that can kill a shark.
They also, seem to be fascinated by humans, have been known to save people at sea (wild dolphins), and often swim and play next to boats and ships, seemingly just for the fun of it.
    Worthy creatures Dolphins.
The problem with tattooing them, is that they are way too often portrayed as cutesy, cartoonish, goofy, and ridiculous, so they hardly come across as the formidable creatures that they are.
Unicorns have suffered the same fate – and they can kill dragons and are magical in addition to being formidable opponents.
But, if you can pull off showing either of these creatures with respect for their natures – that would be quite a feat!

I cant speak for how common they may be in Nebraska… but in Orange Beach, Alabama…wow….at times they are more requested than butterflies or stars. The reasons I have heard range from admiration of the animal to a desire to live at the beach as opposed to some land locked town surrounded by cornfields.
Personal opinion… they are “played out”.
There is a dophin FISH thought that is stunningly beautiful..and rarely tattooed ..except on sportfishermen. It is also called the “Dorado” or “Mahi mahi.” But I dont think thats the dolphin you had in mind… lol.
