Your tattooist will give you specific instructions on how to care for your tattoo. However, in case you lose those instructions, here is a reminder.
Keep the bandage on for at least 3-4 hours. Carefully remove the bandage to let the air at it, this allows your skin to breathe and heal.
Lightly wash your tattoo twice a day with a very mild antibiotic soap. Do not use a wash cloth and pat your tattoo dry lightly with a towel.
Apply an antibiotic ointment to the tattoo for the 3-4 days. Afterwards, you can use a regular lotion that is free of dye, perfume, or alcohol.
Your skin should be exposed to air as often as possible however you should not let it be exposed to the sun.
Do not go into a bathtub, hot tub, swimming pool for at least 4 weeks.

Where you place your tattoo is a very important decision, you need to decide whether or not you want a tattoo that can been hidden. This decision is not just based on your personality, but on your career, social life, etc. Also consider weight gain and loss, it is rare that we stay the same size as we were when the tattoo was done.
